Just planting the seeds. HWBOT's annual Country Cup competition is coming up in November. Always a lot of fun, as overclockers all across Canada #ComeTogether to compete for the honour and the glory. Ahem, un-Canadian chest-pounding aside, I'll post more info once more becomes available. Looking forward to it!

Never heard of this, care to explain eh?

If I was still in bc I would have hardware for every tier. This year I'll try and throw some support in where I can.

Will be fun to see what are the hardware requirements  .

It's an overclocking / benchmarking competition. What's neat about it, though, is that - in years past at least - it includes an awful lot of different stages for all kinds of different hardware. So whether you're rawking a shiny new system or still keeping it old school, there's usually at least one stage you can compete in.

Hopefully there is something I can compete with too :) It suxx to recieve a K6 only after the competition is done. That is kinda too late...  ;D http://hwbot.org/submission/2996958_

So the number of ties give me some hope that I should compete with at least something. Too bad Soul did not joined the Teamcup 2015 - at least a little help could come a long way there  :)  And I get to work on low AMD clock too.

Just looked at your pics on that link. You need a new monitor and keyboard bro, its 2015.

Trodas is a time Traveler who lives in a post World War III bomb shelter some say, others say he travels between dimensions like Rick and Morty and his Dimension is filled with hardware from the 90s.

Either way his ghetto hardware is awesome :)

That beige though! Would be ok at least if his keyboard was a Model M IBM.

True, but I need sponsor for that  ;) Besides, the keyboard is fine and for old-school Socket 7 is 15' CRT monitor fine. If you can throw away some LCD monitors, then I would be catching  ;D  (but shipping will cost somethig, right, Soul?)

Baige is fine. You can quess on what CPU I type this message anyway :) It may surprise you... :) And of course on another baige keyboard... :) They are good for me. The IBM one you talking about I had once. But these keys do click too much and need a long press... impractic. Even my father hrow that crap out  ;)
He moved to old-school Siemens keyboard, which is IMHO also terrible. But when there are many machines running, then I need every keyboard and mouse I can get. I use even some ball mices, as I have shortage of components when many things should be running at once  :P

Nah, things are already getting slowly more modern. While it is true, that my best clocking CPU is the P4 670 ( http://valid.x86.fr/vygery ), then thanks to YOU I can play some modern games too, when I want, so modernization go on :) Currently I waiting on the case fans and then I could finish my Xeon build that will hopefully prove to be usable and more modern machine for daily work and even capable of some gaming, while still running on WinXP  ;)

Yes, there are shortcommings like I need max 1G ram for graphis card, yet still it should have some power - witch is difficut choice - but all it all it should work. It already prove that it can run WinXP, when I modify the install CD (w/o the modification it crash on beginning of the install, regardless of overclocking settings): http://hwbot.org/submission/2936189_

Now the question is only - why when I modify English WinXP install things works, but when I modify Czech WinXP install, things won't work (won't install). I quess that I have to obtain a different WinXP build and perhaps do it manual way, w/o the help of nLite... So I have long way to go, when I did not like Win7 system and noisy computers  ;)

We need some help with our submissions .
You don't need to have the latest and the greatest hardware .
Stage 1 will be the stage that will make a difference .

If you need more info PM and i will assist you

Hey Dead Things what team you on these days?

I'll join up for some results as I have a over load of cpu's and boards right now that could add some points to your team :)

I still bench on Team HWC but the Country Cup doesn't care what team you're on, just want country you say you're from when you sign up. That's what makes the CC so cool: it brings countrymen together who normally don't have a chance to interact with each other as much since they're on different teams. For example, OCN has Canadian roots, and a lot of Canada's best overclockers are on that team. Now that we're all working together on the CC, I'm able to ask advice of those guys and I'm learning an awful lot!

I shall join and start benchmarking asap :)

I'm particularly excited about this year's Country Cup, because it's been my first opportunity to work with sub-zero cooling! Bought a single stage phase change unit from a HWC forum member, and it's been amazing at overclocking AMD FM2+ and Intel LGA115* chips! Admittedly, it was a bit overwhelmed by the AMD AM3+ FX chips like the FX-9590. But hey, if the FX-9590 does not overwhelm you, then you have no whelm!

Yup, that's an i5 6600K at 1.675v in BIOS (1.683v real) that idles at -31C. Full load after about half an hour of Prime95 at those volts is about -19C.

Actually, John, if you can get your sweaty mitts on any Skylake or Haswell chips - we're desperate for scores in Stage 1 using the new x265 benchmark!

edit - It's a multithreaded bench, so the more cores/threads the better. So far, we have 4770K, 4790K, 6600K and 6300. I know a couple of us are working on 6700K and 6320 scores. But we need four more after that.

edit2 - Broadwell too! Well, the 5775C at least. Requirements are LGA1150 or LGA1151 chips.

Right now for CPU's I have
6800k
4670k
1055t
q6600
e8400
some Pentiums
FX 8300
3960x

Lpfan is running a 6700k

I'll hunt around see what else is kicking around, maybe we can borrow GaK as well he has tons of high end gear to :)

That's purrfect!!! Okay here's what we need you to do if you're geek enough...

1) HWBOT x265 1080p w/ 4670K - Use Win7 64bit for this, run it realtime. There are a few other tips/tricks to net a bit better score, but we can cross that bridge when you come to it.
2) 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme w/ 290X and either your 6800K or your 3960X - Use Win7 64bit for this as well. Let me know if you get to this, and I'll help with a couple of additional tips.
3) GPUPI 1B w/ 1055T - Use Win7 64bit here too. Have an AMD video card, and install the OpenCL version that is packaged w/ Catalyst 12.6 - it's faster than any other version before or since.

Those are in priority sequence, so if you can only get to one or two of them before time runs out (Dec. 18) then do them in that order. Now show us whatchoo got mang!

Is there any rules that say I cannot run my rig outside for these oc comps? -26 here and the only thing good about that is cold computers haha
Title: Re: HWBOT Country Cup 2016
Post by: Dead Things on December 09, 2016, 12:44:04 PM
Not at all! I used to do that a lot. I have a basement office, with a window that looks out to underneath my front porch, so I can put rigs outside and just run the cables into my office where I stay toasty and warm. I even lined the underside of my porch in the area around the window with tarp so that I wouldn't have to stop benching just because it was snowing outside!

A few degrees??? It's -30 here haha. My dog looked at me last night before bed and I swear he was thinking "maybe I should just shit in the house, I'm sure the beating will be less painful then going outside" haha

Just kidding my dogs retarded it could be -50 and he would still think it's a nice day to jump the fence and patrol for bitches

But I thinknow DT is onto something there :)

Yeah, absolutely! A 50C swing in ambient temperatures makes a huge difference! I can run LGA115* i7's at about 10-20C while benching full load with 1.6v+ to the core on a simple 280 AIO.

Just subbed this (http://hwbot.org/submission/3391272_) outside. GTS 250 on Corsair H70, vGPU mod to 1.42v (from 1.2v stock). Core temp never got above 30C during benchmarking (outside temp -6C). Goes to show how effective the 'sticking the rig outside' methodology really is.
