[Build Log] The Yellow Minotaur (C70 - Water cooled - Painted)
« on: November 27, 2014, 05:12:24 PM »
Hey Folks,

It's been a loooooooooong time since I've built a rig that requires more than a weekend worth of work, finally it's time to get back on track before the snow hits.

so Color Scheme is going to be Yellow and black, of course matching the motherboard/case, sleeving and water-cooling equipment

Hope you'll enjoy it.

Case

Corsair C70 Gunmetal (Going to be modded to match the theme)

Components

- CPU: Intel i5 - 4670K
- Motherboard: BIOSTAR Hi-Fi Z97WE
- Ram: un-decided
- HDD: Seagate Pipeline 2TB (might run two of them in RAID 0)
- PSU: EVGA 600W B
- GPU: Zotac GTX 680 4GB edition

Cooling

- XSPC Raystorm waterblock (People's favorite)
- Black Ice GT 360 Radiator + Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 (subject to change)
- XSPC X2O 750 Dual Bay Res/Pump
- Bitspower 1/2ID 3/4OD silver fittings
- Primochill 1/2ID 3/4OD clear tubing
- Distilled water with Mayhems yellow dye

Sleeving

- MDP-X Black
- Axon banana yellow

Everything is subject to change. I'll update along the way.

Fans and bays are out!

I love how these bays are easily taken out

First of all, measurements measurements measurements and guess what, something won't let my 360 go in!

Problem easily fixed

Sure enough, 2 minutes later

Piece is gone!

Time to put the rad inside and guess what happened

Here, I'll zoom in, yes I'm f***ing pissed

Motherboard

A shot of the CPU

PSU

HDD

The GPU

4GB ;)

Can't have a 4GB card with no block

Cuz colored tubing is too mainstream

The most common block out there

Now for the most expensive items of this build

Got the stuff ready for painting

Painted the parts over two days and threw them in the case, couldn't take pics of the process as it was freaken 4 degrees!!

Oh yeah, the board is mounted

A proper pic of the CPU

Dat chipset

did I mention that I got the Bay res/rad

This case doesn't like water cooling!! Can't fit the res unless I get the appliers

Seems like it will have to remain like this till tomorrow ...

A small update, got home today and guess what, I could feel the sun!! No clouds!!

looked at that pc and well, it was time to pimp it up

Looked at that PSU

yea, that has to be fixed, How can I fix that? Here's a hint.

Yeah, the front is too plain, don't you think?

well, if I'm painting, I might as well make it more than one item

Not taking the camera outside, so let's forward to 40 mins later

Front goes in and awesome comes out

Did I mention that I bent some metal, fit that res and attached that front?

How about we throw that modified PSU in there

Crappy picture, I know, It's 11:30pm and I've been awake since 7am, just wanted to share that last piece done today

Here's a close up

A small update from last weekend, had (still have) car problems so progress on the pc is a bit slow, anyways, here are some pics.

Got the replacement rads (decided to go with dual 240mm instead of that broken 360)

Some really bad close up pics (i'm not gonna even bother with multiple angles)

Both rads good to go (Go where you might ask)

Here, I'll give you a hint

Well, if you're going to do that, might as well invite everybody

Now this pic turned out to be really crappy

30 minutes later and the fans were..............................................disassembled

Stuff happened outside and this was the result

Re-apply some oil to make those fans spin and assemble them

What about the rads you might ask, have no fear, some crappy pics are here

A small fight with the case and this was the end result

Will start polishing that GPU block and running those tubes next weekend (hopefully)

well, sickness faded (by faded, I really mean that those 50 pills I took finally kicked in lol) away and I got some work done, unfortunately, my friend borrowed my camera  so it's cell phone pics for now.

First of all, I got the GPU block, now this is a used GPU block as you can tell from the pictures but never the less, I wanted to try something

So I grabbed that GPU block and followed low fat's tutorial, MAKE A TUTORIAL ON HOW YOU TAKE YOUR PICS!!

Took apart the block and did the same to the back

What did I do you might ask, well here's a picture of the block before and after (I filled it with water to clean it and blurred the inside... but anyways)

Old

New

Since that's done, time to take apart that GPU

Threw everything together

Time to clean some fittings

A couple of crappy pics of the card and block

Time to measure and hook up some tubes

Some clean bends with enough space to move the res to the front

I took option one

Some Protection

Filled it with some water

How it looked before i went to sleep

After I woke up

Love the color scheme, slap an autobot symbol on it and you got a bumblebee build ;)

Shame about that rad, I could feel your pain.

Thanks lol, time to order a bumblebee sticker off eBay I guess

Yeah tell me about it, it didn't seem to leak but didn't want to ruin a $1000+ system just to save a couple of $$ ....

Another update!

Got my Vinyl, so ....

It's time to get out the old tools

Time to measure

After measuring, there's the heating

and then cut and repeat,

Too black, don't you think?

Let's move on to the fun part, sleeving! Now i know a lot of people are now ordering pre-sleeved customizable cables, but I think that is cheating!! So, to sleeve and not void the warranty on the PSU, you get these

You open that dusty box of mods and take out that sleeving that never ends

Now you calculate how much you need so that you won't end up with that ^ and order it

Got a new prime lens so decided to play with it a bit

ok enough games, time to sleeve those cables, start with the easy ones, PCI-e Cables

not gonna take a pic of the entire process as that takes many many pics of basically burnt heat shrink - small bits of sleeving and heat shrink marks on my finger, the end result though

oh wait, I need two PCI-e cables

I couldn't wait to install them, so i didn't ...

One more, the night is young, something easy...

How do you think it turned out ?

Was gonna do the 24 pin cable as well, but I'm out of Dexter episodes and now on the hunt for another show to binge watch while sleeving, perhaps Fringe?
