News / If you have a modern Intel board, Update! if you can
« on: January 18, 2018, 07:17:29 AM »
"MSI strongly recommends its users to update their systems by downloading and applying the latest BIOS. It is recommended to review Intel’s Security Advisory, for more information, including appropriate identification and mitigation measures."

MSi has updated Bios's for most of their Z370 2xx 1xx x99 x299 boards. If you're running one of these boards make sure to hit the link on our news post to get your update, if you have other brands many of them have posted updates as well.

On the bench today we have the ASUS STRIX GTX 1070 O8G GAMING

Review: Asus Strix GTX 1070

“The ASUS STRIX GTX 1070 08G is the very epitome of what all NVIIDIA GTX 1070's should strive to be. That is to say a great value that makes it rather difficult to justify spending more money for a 1080-series card.”

Special inclusion for forum only a photo that did not make it into the review of the glow ;)

PS we also did some mining testing (sadly from DEC Soul moved in DEC so was way behind on posting this all my bad)

Crucial MX500 500GB

The very fact that Crucial was able to charge the same price per Gigabyte as the last generation just underscores who fantastic a value the new MX500 really is. Mix in performance that punches way above its weight and it is obvious that Crucial really outdid themselves.

Earning both our Real Deal and Innovation Awards the Crucial MX500 is a “No-Brainer” in our minds

Today on the bench we have the Logitech MX Ergo Ball mouse
"It really is a great update to Logitech's illustrious trackball history and we look forward to a '2.0' model that has all the bugs worked out"

Repair Guides DIY / Basics to troubleshooting PC & Windows Issues
« on: January 08, 2018, 07:46:04 AM »
For some reasons many people do not know the basics of the basics to windows "Slow" or "Glitches without error"

Basic first two things does not matter the version of windows "CMD" is your friend.

Repair 1 (Check Disk)
Hit the windows key or start/run
Type CMD, right click command prompt and run as admin
in the new screen make sure C drive or a prefix of it is selected if not type "C:" then enter
Now type "chkdsk/f" and then "yes"
During the reboot the system will fix it's minor HDD related issues if it can.

Repair 2 SFC (Fixing windows issues)
Hit the windows key or start/run
Type CMD, right click command prompt and run as admin
in the new screen make sure C drive or a prefix of it is selected if not type "C:" then enter
Now Type "Sfc/scannow" this will take some time so you can do other issues while it runs
It should find minor and some major windows issues and fix them.

Now for a dedicated issue I run into all the time (Start button does dick all)
hit Windows key"Does nothing"
Right-click the taskbar click task manager
Click Details tab
find explorer.exe right click it and end task
Then click file run new task, then type "Explorer.exe"
Now the start button works again YAY life is grand

now if you have some quick fixes or suggestions please post them here lets get this DIY area a bit more helpful

Gallery / New Office Reno
« on: January 08, 2018, 07:06:37 AM »
So moved in over a month back and have been getting into the reno heavily the last few days.

Before I moved in:

Move in:

Now the changes are starting

(Above there is no power in my office yet so as you can see I ran the cords through the wall and same with my network cables :P

Cleared off above wall need to remove this wall completely to move it up a few feet

Put up the door "Kinda" its bolted in but not fitted yet and that wall has to come down so... a little bit of a waste of time but meh haha

Sadly the wall goes into another so it will need to be cut out and modified before moved but might have to pay someone to do this

Need to still get the new outlets and my Cat6 keystones and stuff that were ordered a year back from NCIX but guess since they went under I will have to go elsewhere.
  • Outlets
  • Insulation
  • Drywall
  • Green Glue
  • Resilent chambers
  • Resilent clips
  • Green Calking
  • The Wall moved

Once above is done I will them create a floating desk on 3 walls 1 for builds and a corner desk for my main rig

Buying Selling and Trading / WTB A1186 Ram riser (Mac pro 1,1)
« on: January 05, 2018, 07:04:25 AM »
Looking for a ram riser for the Mac Pro tower 1,1 A1186, working on some videos for this and need the second ram riser.

Need a new case that has a 420mm rad support and a 280mm if possible as well.

Any suggestions prefer under $150 as I know there's a lot at the $200+ point.

I know the view 71 fits the bill but costs a ton

Real Hardware Reviews / HyperX Alloy FPS Pro
« on: November 03, 2017, 07:45:56 AM »
Today on the Bench we have the Alloy FPS Pro, make sure to check it out here:

"For those looking for a good TKL form-factor keyboard that will not break the bank but will not fail to impress the HyperX Alloy FPS Pro is sure to impress. Just make sure that you really don’t need the number pad otherwise the Alloy FPS may be a more optimal choice – slightly higher price or not."
