Hello, I will be sharing my short build of an HTPC that I will be giving to my friend. He does not have the money to build one and considering his struggle with depression I thought I could help. As it turns out, others felt the same way and donated the parts that I will be adding to this build. Let us have a look at what I will be working with.
It is none other than a Vostro 200. It should do the job considering all it will be asked to do is stream content.
-2GB of random memory
-Samsung 250GB HDD
Look what arrived in the mail today, a package containing the generous donation!
Here is a list of parts that I will adding/change out to complete this build:
-8GB of DDR2
* A big thank you to the person that donated these parts for this build!! You know who you are *
Next thing to do is removing the parts not needed.
First out is the HDD... it is VERY slow
Out comes the 9800GT Akimbo
Then the ram
Lastly I will remove the old e6600, what a classic!
Ok, now I can clean out the remaining computer!
Some may do a better job but this is as good as I will get it.
Time for new parts to go in. I started with the cpu of course
Then the ram and GPU went in as you can see
Ok ok I know, it has been a lot of pics... haha, I do not know how to make a build log. oh well....
It is now time to see if this computer will post. In the past it has been quite finicky, not liking ram. I got lucky it seems because it posted without any issue!!!
In the bios you can see the cpu and all the ram is reporting as it should. Nice!
Ok that wraps up my build log! Thank you for following along on a simple retro build to give away. Have any questions please feel free to ask!!!
