4K Epic Build Log Take 2 (build log)

Well posted this the other day but our site admin thought he would erase 24 hours haha.

First the plan behind this build was to take a lot of guidance from reviewers I respect and use their advice for parts that I did not have yet. Also needed to upgrade as my GPU and CPU are overheating due to bad cooling on the GPU and a failing aio on the CPU.

When I run Adobe premiere even 1080p 60fps I get jitter and maxed CPU plus throttling GPU. So it's time to change things up. First the CPU and motherboard are being swapped for a 6950x and a taichi x99 board. The CPU will be cooled by a 420mm aio that I will finally have a case it will fit in to review it as well.
The GPU is getting a nzxt aio adapter and a kraken 240 to cool it, also a custom backplate.

Still just using 32gb ram for now.
Hdd is nvme in raid 0 using 1tb p1 crucial drives as well as a mix and match of ssds and hdds to fit about another 24tb of storage in here.
GPU is a msi armor 1080 ti, gamernexus covers the issues with this card that custom cooling hopes to solve.
Also reusing my elgato capture pro and a elgato usb for some fun testing.

Now to show off the parts.

Already lapped the CPU and got custom sleeping to. Really looking forward to this build. Will keep you all posted as I go

Finally getting to this build, the case is like nothing else such great quality and all screws few rivets so you can take it all apart easily.

used to be super cheap but they have only gotten better and better over the years

Huge updates to this build later tonight. New GPU showed up so should be fun.

Decided to mod my desk tonight I'll get some photos of the build posted and bench my old rig before moving to the new one 🙂

Holy RGB batman. You're not allowed to turn that on when I come over.

Got it cover your car in rgb haha

Oh don't worry, Ford already handled that on the inside.

New rig is coming together lots of cable cleanup needed.

Post more as I get time tomorrow

Last night got this rig powered up for the first time,
10 cores 20 threads all working solidly at room temp during testing so OC on the way 😄

There is 64gb ram in this rig crucial 3000, 8x8gb sticks but the bios shows som as 4gb and some as 16gb sticks, this seems very odd to me, when I look at all the sticks they all show 8gb 3000, this will need more investigation.

Sad day in my life, forgot x99 does not support raid nvme 😞 so 1tb nvme is for boot and games, other 1tb will be an editing video drive.

One thing that amazes me with this case is space, have 4 2tb and 1 5tb hdd and still have space for at least 2x more drives

The Cablemods sleeving kits are amazing quality but do not come with enough combs, lucky for me I ordered a $2 kit from amazon.ca that actually ended up being good.

Windows installed damn fast and the wifi on this rig is extremely fast average rate was 400mbs last night but was still impressed.

Tonight I hope to get the rest of the drivers done, install adobe and close up this rig, put it on the desk and have it there for my future videos 🙂

Many updated to come

ASRock is one of my 'go to' mobo mfg'ers. Especially when it comes to AMD rigs. They are almost always one of the first to implement low level improvements. sometimes MONTHS before Asus does.
Don't get me wrong, like all companies, they make mediocre/cheap boards too... just go with their higher end models and you are GTG.

Yeah, I have one or two ASRocks machines that are going strong for Intel a good 5+ years in use. Though I went with their mid-tier, like everything I suppose YMMV.

Well it went from rgbish to rgb filled haha, have to work on placements and cord cleanup

Hue kit installed traded LPfan for it, need to move the lights around a bit.

20190410_210335.jpg
Hue and Scythe fans are not compatible, the Scythe fans are 12v and the hue is only 5v so the lights do turn on but run very dim, will be swapping the Scythes to the onboard 12v controller and put the 4 nzxt all around the case.

20190410_210312.jpg
Think the 5TB mini hdd needs to be moved will hide it behind the motherboard as there is a mount there.

20190410_181052.jpg
Going to OC the system once fully assembled to my liking, currently at stock clocks and running maxed temps of 42C on 2 cores remaining 8 sit at under 35c.

Almost forgot, the OCool cooler is doing a damn good job on this cpu, at stock settings during an hour of use(posting, Discord, Apex test game) it does not even get warm.

6950x temp.PNG

So damn happy streaming again works perfectly with my new rig 😄

20190411_215448.jpg
Need to put the logo on tonight trying to figure out where.

20190411_204520.jpg

Rig is setup and used it to stream Apex last night and it ran perfectly. no issues no hesitation and damn fast.
This weekend it's OC time, also need to work on fan curves as it is a bit louder than I want but should not be too tough to fix haha.

only big downside to all of this is my main gaming lcd finally has to go, does not play nice with RTX and it's lack of DVI-D so it is locked at 120hz.

What display are you currently using? Also what will you get to replace it?

2 dell professional 27" 1440p screens and a Asus VG278H

Looks good. The hdd got moved somewhere hidden?

@Bond007 yah the case has 2 2.5 mounts behind the motherboard and the 5tb 2.5" is surprisingly loud.

Going to throw a ssd up front I think soon.

Need to move the fans off the hue+ them being 12v can cause issues read that today so the led strips on the hue and the fans and case built in rgb on the cases controller

All done now.

For a day or 2 Haha.

Vinyl is on rgb works fine.

Next for this tower is new monitor for it to power, fan curve modifications and a new phantom 48v amp.

Was a fun one but time to build some giveaway rigs.
