Well here is the next step in my slowing upgrading bit by bit computer. Current specs are in my signature. If you care to see my previous threads here they are:

Now its once again time to step up the GPU. This time its an XFX R9 280X DD. Initial impressions are that is a pretty awesome looking card that is roughly the length of the 6950, but slightly wider. Install went without a hitch. I am on the computer as I type, and I will do some gaming on it soon. I will update the thread once I get some gaming in. I will also run the benches that I ran in my previous threads to have a reference mark for anyone that want to know my gains, and power usage.

EDIT: Resident evil bench -
Stock HD 6950 -                                  8024 points
Unlocked shaders and OC'd 6950 -  9261  points
Stock R9 280X  -                                  13136 points
Anyone that wants an older reference, my gtx 460 had 6339 points.

Side by side…the new and the old:

In and ready to rumble:

Hey Bond

What bench did you use to get the points, was it 3dmark vantage or 3dmark11
Just curious.

It's a resident evil bench you can download on steam.

damn that XFX is super sexy

great build there Bond hope she treats you well

Hey Bond

I downloaded that bench and for my card only go 11075 score.

Win 7 32bit, can not find my 64bit (AWOL)

Alright….I had a little hiccup with the GPU, but a replacement is in and all appears to be going well. I will hopefully be able to get to doing the few other benchmarks and power consumption over the next while as I originally planned. Nothing too exciting, but I always like to track these things.

Must be settings related for the difference. I just re-ran the bench with the new card and it's pretty much the same as I reported before. 13165 this time.
