Windows 10 (Horror/ Success) Stories

installing windows 10 right now on my design laptop, just wanted to know how it went for others who have done the upgrade.

Are you enjoying?

Do you have a undying desire to burn your local Microsoft Store to the ground?

Tell us about it 🙂

Still says it will let me know when its ready on a couple computers. How long will this take? Anyway to get this started or is it downloading in the background? Want to try now! heh

open windows update and it should show up there 🙂

Mine took less then 20 min start to finish to upgrade on one of my backup laptops.

Laptops very fast now and graphics based programs seem to be a little faster 🙂

Ok, Ill just keep waiting. Been updating a couple other computers and windows update seems pretty slow right now. Thinking Ill probably be waiting a while since lots of people are probably trying to get it too.

Nice, I want to try on the old E6400 Dell laptop first, should probably run good on it.

I've got a Dell E6430 that runs pretty alright on Win 8.1 Pro, so I don't expect any issues with performance on 10 Pro. My upgrade was started this morning before work so I'll update later on once I've tinkered around a bit.

GoG did a big talk a while back about how windows 10 will be super GoG friendly, I called marketing BS but today I was proven wrong.

Fallout 1, 2 and tactics have always been sub par on windows 8.1 they have random stuttering that drives me crazy.

Today upgraded to windows 10 and BAM! issues are all gone, all game play is now flawless also the scenes actually work now on some of the super old original games.

GoG and Microsoft I salute you:)

I might go ahead and upgrade on my HTPC!

but I will need to set up my SABnzb after 😞

Waited all day for it to download and still nothing. Ended up getting the download tool from Microsoft, installing now!

Awesome, I am enjoying it as I wasted my whole lunch gaming haha.

Also happy there is a new quadro driver that fixed a ton of odd issues I was having

I've been running windows 10 for a couple weeks or so, no hiccups here. Didn't even need to install drivers, windows update handled it perfectly with up to date drivers.

Been running Windows 10 on my Dell 6410 without any major issues. The biggest issue I ran into was the default trackpad software installed by Windows would constantly shut off my trackpad at critical times so I removed it and no issues since.

Another odd quirk is that even when my laptop is plugged in at 100% the words "not charging" is displayed which is annoying and hopefully removed.

I'm hesitant on upgrade to windows 10 right away because I play Final Fantasy 14 on my PC and unsure how compatible the new windows is with it. I remember when windows vista came out and I played Final Fantasy 11 back in the day it wasn't compatible for a few months and had to resort to playing it on Playstation 2.

Been testing out on my Dell E6400 and works perfect. Not a issue and all hardware works. Seems to be very smooth. I just have a older version of office and Adobe 9 pro that I mostly use. Tried a couple old games in steam and they were perfect also.

Now to try on the gaming machines.

So far so good. It reset the settings on my trackpad and Edge made itself the primary browser but that's barely mentionable. Seems Lightroom 5.7 and Photoshop CC are running without a hitch as well as Word 2013. (But that's kinda expected)

Seeing as I don't have an MS account linked to my laptop, it seems WiFi Sense for the most part is non-functional.

Good to hear the positives. I have been considering putting it on my laptop, but I am scared of issues. I might have to bite the bullet and go for it. Anyone try any acer laptops yet?

Win 10 does not have any appeal to me, however it is good to note that AMD mentioned first two DX12 games: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided a Ashes of the Singularity.

Deus Ex is made on the Dawn Engine and will support the hair extension TressFX 3.0 (hopefully it will be faster that the GameWorks nVidia code in Witcher, witch works as lead foot crunching the framerate) and more DX12 improvements will be announced later.
(IMHO as long, as the game still work in DX11, we hardly can expect major improvements, but I would love to be proved wrong there - we see on Xmass 2015 or in spring 2016)

Ashes of the Singularity works on Nitrous Engine (say hello to Star Swarm). It use MT Command Buffer Recording and also "more to come" (from the DX12 pool of features, of course) 🙂 No release date yet, but Oxide Games is thinking (from the gameinformer sources, tough) that there will be some "early access" possible during summer (yep, this summer) and relase date is targeted for Xmass (of course).

If there are compeling (read - speed) reasons why move my gaming PC to Win 10, well... I might consider them. Bun there is nothing now, no patch for any game to make it faster on DX12, so...

Just promises did not quite cut it for me  😉

I had failure after failure using the normal update… after digging around I found an update fixit tool which repaired some previous updates, then I used the Media Creation Tool - updated without issue (took a good 1/2 hour). First boot after was screwy (taskbar buttons were off, overlapping) things acted funny. Rebooted again and those were all gone.

Besides cortana crashing/resetting a few times... and BF4 not starting once. Its been great

Note: AMD Released a new driver yesterday 15.7.1 (I think nVidia did too)

Cortana is fun (Already hands down better than siri) - once you enable the "Hey Cortana" its even better.
One oddity with that is that a guy on twitter (Jason Evangelho @Killyourfm) posted a quick video... he only has to say "Cortana" not "Hey Cortana" any one know how to do that? 🙂

I thought I originally read in Canada we weren't getting Cortana at least, or did that somehow or magically change?
