AMD Fury can be unlocked to Fury X - 4096 stream processors

AMD R9 Fury can be fully unlocked (if you are lucky and these stream processors are not defctive, witch seems to be the case for many - yay!  ;D ) to R9 Fury X with full 4096 stream processors. Overclockers find a way:

As you can see CUInfo says that probably one unit is damaged. Luckily enough I was able to unlock all CUs and I'm not having any freezes or artifacts  😉

BUT: I'm not having much of a performance increase… From 56 to 60CUs it was around 3% and from 60 to 64 only 1%. I used Unigine Valley for testing.

that's the first I heard of this for the fury. I would say with that gain you are probably better off doing an OC than unlocking (probably more fps per watt or per degree by OCing). But if your at max OC and temps are still good, then 1% is 1%…why not.

I knew this would happen!! Thank God my Fury X was due to ship till Aug 18, I just cancelled it and shall wait till I find a Fury on sale

Sure… but that way you miss the nice AIO watercooling unit on Fury X  😉

those whiney one? lol

Well, I never get these in my hands, but mostly reviewers claimed that the cooling is relatively quiet. Best from the roundup… so hopefully they are not all mistaken. Then by all means - use better cooling 😉 Custom made...  🙂

BTW, there is the thread with the CuInfo utility that check the hardware to see, if something can be unlocked or not:

…and the worsest thing - to get speed increase, it must be possible to unlock same number of CU in each of the four shader engines cores. The ones that are bad a locked by AMD are usually in the middle, the ones that are locked to match the specs are at the end. So you want to see this:

SE1 hw/sw: 00030000 / 00000000 [….....x......x]
SE2 hw/sw: 10010000 / 00000000 […x...........x]
SE3 hw/sw: 00030000 / 00000000 […...........xx]
SE4 hw/sw: 00030000 / 00000000 […...........xx]

…as it is highly probable, that at least one of the CU in each SE could be unlocked w/o artefacts. But OTOH if you see this:

SE1 hw/sw: 00030000 / 00000000 […...........xx]
SE2 hw/sw: 10010000 / 00000000 […x.....x......]
SE3 hw/sw: 00030000 / 00000000 […...........xx]
SE4 hw/sw: 00030000 / 00000000 […...........xx]

…it is most likely you are out of luck. Unlocking even all the SE1, SE3 and SE3 CU units did not produce any performance increase, because all these pipelines will wait for the SE2 to finish and SE2 have likely disabled these CU for a reason....

Still worth the try!
